Carp-A-Tex – About Us
Carp-A-Tex has its roots way back in 1956, when carpet fitters Eric Marsh and Cyril Wicks were offered a contract to manage the flooring and curtain work for local brewery Simonds the Brewers. The two of them provided and fitted the curtains, flooring and furniture for all the Simonds pubs and hotels across the UK.
It was from the success of this off-chance contract that Carp-A-Tex was born, when Cyril Wicks decided to turn it into a limited company a few years later. Berkshire County Council soon heard about our superior flooring work and appointed Carp-A-Tex as the first port of call to carry out any flooring work on behalf of the council, including schools, hospitals and residential homes.
From then, the business has gone from strength to strength. Cyril enjoyed nearly 30 years at the helm before retiring in 1985. The business was taken over by Martin Povey, who expanded Carp-A-Tex further and lifted it to one of the most respected flooring companies in the area.
From The 1950s To Present Day
Carp-A-Tex is now in the hands of its third owners, brothers Kevin and Jason Minns, who started with the company as novice carpet fitting apprentices many years before. Together with their father, David Minns, these owners have a collective experience in the carpeting industry of well over 100 years.
By combining high quality products from the UK’s leading manufacturers, superior service and years of hands-on experience, Carp-A-Tex has built up an enviable reputation, staying strong for 50 years, despite the economical downturns the UK has experienced.
As well as gaining a secure contract with the local council, we’ve been privileged to work on a number of prominent, high-profile projects, including Windsor Castle, Eton College, the Millennium Dome and the BBC. As a friendly, family-run business steeped in history, we pride ourselves on providing Berkshire with a superior service, with a personal touch.
